The Organisation

ARRCC, Inc. is a multi-faith, member-based organisation committed to taking action on climate change. Established in late 2007, ARRCC brings together people of faith from all over Australia to work towards a more just and sustainable future. ARRCC's mission is twofold:

  • to promote ethical, sustainable, healthy and contented lifestyles which respect the Earth’s precious natural resources, and
  • to advocate, from a faith perspective, for public policies which contribute to climate justice.

ARRCC is at an exciting time in our development. With a growing membership, increased media coverage and an ability to attract grants, ARRCC has great unrealized potential. A faith-based organisation like ARRCC has the potential to value-add significantly to the challenge of shifting the public narrative around fossil fuels. With 67% of the population regarding themselves as a member of one of the major religions, we have a potentially extensive constituency many of whom have not yet been engaged by the environment movement. See www.arrcc.org.au

About Greenfaith/ARRCC Victoria

GreenFaith/ARRCC operates as the presence of ARRCC in Victoria. Our original mission when Greenfaith was founded 10 years ago was to bring “together people from different faith communities and spiritualities to respond holistically in thought, practice, community and spirit to the ecological problems our diverse multi-faith society. We seek to learn from the wisdom of the faith traditions to generate urgent ethically-based responses to our ecological and environment challenges. We hope to act practically and effectively on ecological issues, and through action create increasing opportunities for interfaith fellowship and learning.”

Position Information

The purpose of this role is to help coordinate Greenfaith/ARRCC's communications and grassroots organising work across Victoria.

We will ask the successful applicant to engage with faith communities and interfaith networks to raise awareness and to ask them to take concrete actions to address climate change within their communities.

We hope that this will mean more people begin to use the ARRCC Climate Action Kits and other materials with their faith communities.

Key Potential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and help with ARRCC social media (Facebook and Twitter) and help to increase our reach
  • Help with organising events (e.g. fundraising dinner, activist training, monthly meetings)
  • Create flyers and brochures for our Eat Less Meat and other campaigns
  • Help with other communications work
  • Other tasks as needed and as interest you

We are especially interested in working with students of communications/journalism, theology, religion, politics, ecology, environment and community development
