Climate Justice Dawn Vigil
On World Environment Day (June 5), ARRCC and Rising Tide Newcastle are co-hosting a multi-faith candlelight vigil and service to commemorate the victims of the climate crisis, specifically those who will lose their lives over the next century due to the burning of Newcastle’s coal exports. From 12am, community members will gather by the rail line into the world’s biggest coal port to bear witness to the ongoing perpetration of the climate crisis that is bringing great harm to vulnerable communities in Australia and around the world.
Multi-faith Dawn Service
From 6am, there will be a service with readings, reflections, songs and prayers for climate justice, with religious leaders including:
- Allison Forrest, Toronto Uniting Church Minister
- Ven Bhakdo, Tibetan Monk
- Doug Hewitt AM, Coordinator of Christians for Peace Newcastle
When: 6am-7:15am, Monday June 5
Where: Maitland Rd, Sandgate, next to the train line.
