The origins of faith-based pro-environmental work lie in the sacred texts of each of the various religious traditions. These sacred texts variously express that the earth is intrinsically valuable and deserves protection, that human beings will find happiness in right relationships with the earth and with each other, and that we have a special responsibility to care for those who find themselves in poverty. Theologians have reflected on these to form theologies more relevant to the contemporary context. The links on the right will lead you to examples of the originating texts.
