Hour of Power - stopping a $1 billion to Adani

We are organising an online get-together for people of faith to help keep up the pressure on the State Bank of India (SBI) - or, rather, on one of their investors - HSBC. As you may know, the SBI is currently considering lending Adani $1 billion for their mine. There has been enormous pressure over the past couple of weeks on SBI to rule this loan out. The most effective pressure so far has come through organisations that lend to SBI who have started saying they could cease to do so unless SBI refuses to lend Adani money. The biggest such investor that could make a key difference is HSBC. They are both one of SBI's key bondholders and an Adani investor.

So, what can we do? Let HSBC know that as people of faith we want them to do the right thing. How to do this? With an Hour of Power. This is where we come together with other people of faith on Zoom and email key decision makers at HSBC and tweet at them.

If you've never used Twitter before, don't worry. Fahimah will kindly be providing training during the call that starts you right from scratch. And if you'd rather not do that, you can always send them emails, so please do come.

Please note: it is possible that by the time this action takes place SBI pay already have ruled out the loan, or they may have committed to it. If either of these things has happened by then we will change the focus of the action to put pressure on potential insurers from Lloyds instead, so please come either way!
