Line the Streets, Parliament House

LINE THE STREETS NEAR PARLIAMENT HOUSE, CANBERRA.

FROM 7-9 am, Monday, 9 November

This is a peaceful, family-friendly, COVID-safe event with police permission.

Look out for the ARRCC banner because ARRCC supporters will be there to remind our elected representatives that climate is an urgent and central concern for the electorate.

On 9 November, Zali Steggall will be introducing a Climate Change Act to Parliament. Line the streets, overpasses, bridges, (where there is safe pedestrian access) on the way to Parliament House so politicians are greeted by us the morning of the Bill's introduction.

ARRCC and the Peoples Climate Assembly (PCA) supports this Bill, and we'd love your help to show support and demand our politicians back the Bill.

We'll be lining the access roads to Parliament House - State Circle, Kings Ave, Melbourne Ave, etc.

From 9am, we will gather back on Parliament House lawns - more info to come.

This Bill is really just a start, and will, at minimum, ensure Australia is brought into line with the Paris Agreement.

We believe more needs to be done and much faster. As Climate Council CEO, Amanda McKenzie states “The Bill is more conservative than the climate change legislation we need right now. We must reach net-zero emissions well before 2040, 2050 is way too late.”

But after the catastrophic summer we have just experienced and no sign the government is planning any meaningful response to tackling the climate crisis, we support this - and we will do it loudly. Change needs to happen and it needs to start NOW.
