Rising Tide Sydney Splash
Sydneysiders are invited to the Sydney Splash when Rising Tide's national tour stops in Sydney on the first weekend in July - Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th.
The following day on the Sunday will also see a Harbour action (see below), but first, from the Saturday afternoon into the evening, you can join others from across the movement to celebrate our collective power and share ideas and plans for directly taking on the fossil fuel industry.
Rising Tide Sydney
Teachers Federation Conference Centre
37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills (a five-minute walk from Central Station)
Doors open at 3:00pm
More information and booking here
All are welcome to adjourn afterwards to the Gaelic Club (a five-minute walk away) at 5:30pm for live music, an action briefing and friendship-building.
ABC science journalist Bernie Hobbs will chair a panel of experts and activists to discuss why we need a mass movement for social change and how to build this. Speakers will include:
- Australia Institute Climate & Energy Director Polly Hemming
- Coal miner Grant Howard
- Author and commentator Jane Caro.
Please wear your ARRCC t-shirts or wear or bring something else to be visible as people of faith if you can.
The program will include the launch of Rising Tide Sydney's plan to turn out 3,000 people to Newcastle for the People's Blockade of the World's Largest Coal Port. There will also be an invitation to participate in a direct action involving kayaking across Sydney Harbour the next morning on the Sunday.
This will be good preparation for this November's blockade of the world's largest coal port at Newcastle.
Kayak 2 Kirribilli
For those who want to take a further step, on the Sunday, some Rising Tide supporters will kayak across the harbour to the PM's residence at Kirribili. They'll be taking their 10+ metres of signed climate defence pledges to his doorstep to deliver this message: 'If our government won't take on the fossil fuel industry, we will.'
You're invited to join a welcome party for the kayakers to deliver this message on the Lady Gowrie Steps on the north side of the harbour at 8:30am on Sunday 7 July. There will be theatre and music and fun!
If you are an experienced kayaker with your own vessel and would like to be involved or have access to kayaks you would like to lend, please contact Zack on [email protected]
This action carries no legal risk and is subject to change. RSVP here to be kept up to date with arrangements.
