Say No to Japan's greenwashing - Sydney
Join us to stand in solidarity with South East Asian partners who are taking to the streets in Manila, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to oppose Japan's fossil fuel expansion agenda in the region. Our Asian colleagues have been mobilising on this issue, we want to show that Australian civil society are listening.
Jubilee will, at the same time, request that the Japanese Consulate office hand delivers a petition being prepared by the Don’t Gas Asia and Fossil Free Japan coalition.
When: 1:00 pm Tuesday 28th October
Where: meeting outside Salesforce Tower, 180 George St, then a walk (likely) to the Japanese Consulate, or to the Opera House forecourt (TBA)

Why is it important?
-
The day prior, on 27th October, the Japanese government are convening AZEC - the Asia Zero Emissions Community
-
Despite the name AZEC is being used as a greenwashing front for Japan's pro-fossil expansion, locking developing economies into long-term fossil gas, and locking out renewables
-
The Australian government is complicit - whilst Japan might be financing this climate destruction, it's Australian gas exports that are fuelling it
-
We need to raise the profile of this issue in the lead up to COP30, Australia and Japan must be held accountable.
Jubilee Australia has prepared a google doc with all the details. On the doc you can find a link to join the Whatsapp group. Jubilee campaigner, Suhailah, will be leading the action, with support from our friends at ACF and ActionAid.
