Why ANZ and why now?
ANZ’s gas client, APA Group, plans to build thousands of kilometres of new pipelines to unleash widespread gas fracking in the Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory.
With APA’s pipelines, Beetaloo risks becoming not just one of the world’s largest fracked shale gas basins, but one of the largest gas fields ever developed.1
But here is the catch – APA Group needs billions of dollars in funding from the banks to turn its pipe dreams into a climate-wrecking reality.
Enter, ANZ – Australia’s biggest funder of fossil fuels.
ANZ is the only big four Australian bank whose current policies leave the door open to directly funding APA’s Beetaloo pipelines.
But with your help, we have a chance to make ANZ rule out funding the pipeline!
In just a few weeks ANZ’s board will meet to decide on adopting a policy to rule out funding pipelines dedicated to new gas fields – fields like Beetaloo!
That’s why dozens of customers, shareholders, staff and concerned community members are turning out on the 21st to send a message to ANZ’s decision makers: Don’t Frack the Outback!
Together, we can Stop Beetaloo fracking in its tracks
